The Ondo state security outfit codenamed Amotekun, has commenced border patrols and enhanced security surveillance at boarding schools across the state to prevent mass kidnappings.

Parading 16 suspects in Akure, the state capital, the Amotekun commander Chief Adetunji Adeleye, said that the surveillance of boarding schools became necessary following nationwide security breaches and kidnappings.

Adeleye said that ” In the wake of this recent outcry of security breaches and kidnapping, the corps has commenced full enhanced patrol of all boarding schools in the state.

“Over the past week, we have visited numerous schools, particularly those in border towns and outskirts, and mounted continuous surveillance to ensure the safety of students.

He added that the security “has intensified 24-hour patrols, particularly along state borders, as part of the Ember Month security enhancement to safeguard lives and properties.

Adeleye assured residents of the state that the “security agencies are ensuring that safety of lives and property in the state is guaranteed.

Speaking on the suspects paraded, Adeleye said that ” among those arrested were three individuals of northern extraction for violating the state’s anti-grazing law, ten suspects for theft, and the remaining for kidnapping and vandalism of government property.

According to him ” The 16 individuals include ten who broke public law and order, three kidnappers, and three for anti-grazing violations.

“Operation ‘Le Won Jade,’ which spans all 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo State, has been instrumental in driving away miscreants, bandits, and kidnappers from our forests, and this exercise continues alongside regular city patrols.”

Adeleye said that the suspects include Abubakar, a 24-year-old from Ogbese arrested for anti-grazing violations; Usman, arrested for stealing a drilling machine; and Olamiju, 35, along with Udofia and Miracle, apprehended as suspected kidnappers at Ala-Dada in Akure North.

Others include ” Ibuba who was arrested for anti-grazing activities. Uche that specializes in defrauding POS people.

We have a Samson, 32, that was arrested for stealing farm products. We have one Tosin that was arrested in connection with robbery and attempted murder.

“We have Abiola, 25, arrested for attempted murder. Samuel arrested for armed robbery. We have a Sunday, 28, arrested for stealing a phone in conjunction with Tope who is 25 years old and a 29-year-old Dayo. We equally have a Mohamed that was arrested for anti-grazing activities and a Subuloye that was arrested for vandalizing government assets.

The Amotekun commander, appreciated “the Olus and Balas in the forest for giving us timely information because a number of activities will have resulted in calamities, but for the timely information which we acted upon and this has resulted in the success we recorded.

He expressed happiness that “the state has witnessed a sharp decline in criminal activities, highlighting compliance with the anti-open-grazing law and the effectiveness of joint patrols by security agencies.
