I will never support Uzodimma for Senate President - Wike vows

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has vowed that he will never support Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, for Senate President.

Wike made the vow on Thursday during a media chat with select journalists in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

He was speaking on his fight with Uzodimma and his new political understanding with former Governor Rochas Okorocha, revealing that he supported Uzodimma for a second term in office as governor against his own party man, Sam Anyanwu, who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The minister explained that the fight started because Uzodimma, as chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, led the opposition against his Rainbow Coalition.

DAILY POST reports that the Rainbow Coalition is Wike's cross-party movement to deliver votes for President Bola Tinubu in 2027, while allowing members to still support PDP candidates for Senate, House of Reps and Governorship.

"When you see Hope Uzodimma, ask him, when he was going for a second term, did I support him or not? I supported Uzodimma against the PDP candidate who was my national secretary, Sam Anyanwu. Rainbow Coalition has come to stay, and there is nothing anybody can do about it," Wike said.

Wike said Uzodimma's real problem with the coalition is his ambition to become Senate President and accused the governor of planning to abandon his governorship before it ends in January 2028 to go to the Senate in 2027.

"This man's office will expire in January 2028. Now, he wants to leave his office to run for the Senate. I will never support the character of Hope Uzodimma to be Senate President of Nigeria," Wike said.
