Hostile Nigerian states will suffer limited connectivity – ALTON

The Association of Licenced Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has warned that subnationals in the country with hostile working conditions for its members will be left behind in waves of telecommunications development and improved connectivity.
The chairman of ALTON, Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, made this known at an event during the weekend.
According to him, unfriendly regulations in some states, such as excessive levies and right-of-way bottlenecks, are a clog in the wheel of progress for telecom operators.
He said telcos currently pay up to 56 levies; however, he noted that with the signing of the tax reform bills, the levies would be reduced down from January 2026.
“States that create hostile conditions for telecom operations risk being left behind. Where deployment is unwelcome, investments will move to more supportive neighbouring states, and citizens of unfriendly states will inevitably suffer limited connectivity,” Adebayo said.
“We will not continue to solicit endlessly for cooperation,” Adebayo stressed.
