He kept saying ‘Thank you’ – Ex-waiter narrates encounter with Pastor Odukoya

'He kept saying

An ex-waiter, Adedamola, has shared details of his first encounter with Pastor Oluwajimi ‘Jimmy’ Odukoya taught him humility, a lesson he has found invaluable in his life’s journey.

Adedamola, who shared his experience via TikTok (adedamolasports), said he wanted his testimony shared until Pastor Odukoya sees it.

The post has garnered reactions. And Pastor Odukoya’s was among. The cleric wrote: “Thank you Sir. I am grateful. God continue to bless and keep you!”

Adedamola said: “About four years ago, I was still in Nigeria, and I was working as a waiter in one company in Ikeja. My salary was 33,000. And I was a hustler, because then, you know, I was still coming up. God has helped me now.

“I learned something from this man (Pastor Odukoya). I have never met him, I don’t know him. The only time I used to see this man was.. – I knew he was an actor. But I have never, ever come across him. I never met him.

“The first time was in that restaurant. I worked there for two years. And if I tell you before God and man, this man taught me something that is still with me up to today, and that will be with me for life.

“When I was serving this man – because I was the one that served this table. At every point I’ll bring something to the table or take something away, this man will say, ‘Thank you, sir’.

“I swear to God, I swear with my life, I swear with everything I have.

‘Rude elites’

“And, you know, we are used to seeing people that are rude, especially those that are very, very wealthy.

“You bring something to their table, they will check – ‘Get out of here’. You know, because a waiter’s job comes with a lot of disrespect. They will just look at you and say, ‘Put the food on the table.’

“One day, I wanted to help one woman to pack her food. The woman said, ‘Bring my food. What if you go and spit inside?’ And you cannot say anything, because customers are always right.

“But the first time I came across this man, when I saw him, I was like, ‘Ah, see this actor?’

“You know, at every point that I’ll bring something to this man’s table, he was always saying, ‘Thank you’. It’s humility.

“God sees my heart. Oh, I swear, God sees my heart. This man (Odukoya)… because to an extent, God has helped me. I know, I know. I knew where I was coming from. That one is a story for another day. But God has helped me. God has helped me.

“But this man taught me something, and he taught me humility. And immediately the man left, I was like God! I was happy serving you for the first time in that restaurant.”
