Grenade explodes, kills three children in Gwoza

Three children lost their lives on Thursday afternoon following the explosion of a grenade in Pulka town, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The incident was disclosed by counter-insurgency expert and security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post on his X handle on Friday.
The victims were identified as Fati Dahiru, Aisha Ibrahim, and Fati Yakubu.
They were reportedly playing with the explosive device when it detonated at about 2:20 p.m.
Makama disclosed that a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Buba Yaga, said the grenade was suspected to have been abandoned by Boko Haram insurgents.
Following the incident, a joint team comprising operatives from the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD-CBRN), troops of Operation Hadin Kai, CJTF, and local hunters visited the scene.
The area was cordoned off and searched for additional explosives, but none were found. The area was later declared safe.
The children were rushed to the General Hospital in Gwoza but were confirmed dead by doctors.
Their bodies were released to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Authorities advised residents to report any suspicious objects to security agencies to prevent similar tragedies.
