Kaduna — The Kaduna State Government has fulfilled Governor Uba Sani’s pledge to provide financial support to 97 inmates granted clemency on Democracy Day, with each beneficiary receiving N100,000 to support their reintegration into society.

The beneficiaries, who were released under the governor’s constitutional prerogative of mercy, received the funds on Friday at the Kaduna Medium Security Custodial Centre.

Speaking during the presentation, the Officer in Charge of the Kaduna Medium Security Custodial Centre, Assistant Controller Dalhat Ibrahim, described the initiative as a boost to the rehabilitation and reintegration of the former inmates.

He said the governor’s intervention extended beyond securing their release, noting that the financial assistance would help them rebuild their lives and become productive members of society.

“By paying the fines of the inmates and giving them financial assistance, this will encourage them to do what they are supposed to do. They are now set to be reintegrated into society,” he said.

Ibrahim urged the beneficiaries to use the funds as seed capital for small businesses or other legitimate ventures and encouraged them to remain law-abiding citizens.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, Alhaji Mohammed Suleiman, said the disbursement marked the final phase of implementing the clemency granted by Governor Sani on June 12.

He explained that he led a government delegation to the custodial centre to present N100,000 to each of the released inmates in fulfilment of the governor’s commitment.

Suleiman also urged the beneficiaries to maintain good conduct and avoid activities that could lead to a return to custody.

One of the beneficiaries, Chuks Solomon from Ebonyi State, thanked the governor for granting them a second chance.

“We thank the governor for giving us this opportunity to regain our freedom. We also appreciate the financial support because some of us will use it as capital to start a business. We pray that God continues to bless him,” he said.

Another beneficiary, Abubakar Umar, who spoke in Hausa, described the occasion as one of the happiest moments of their lives.

He prayed for God’s continued blessings on Governor Uba Sani, Kaduna State and Nigeria, wishing the governor success in his efforts.
