Gov Idris reiterates commitment to NG-CARES Programme

The Kebbi State governor, Nasir Idris, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting the NG-CARES programme, which has been domesticated in the state as KAURA CARES.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idros, on Tuesday during the North-West Stakeholders’ Consultative Meeting titled “Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economy Stimulus,” the governor explained that the programme had received full support in the state.
According to him, “It is under this programme that for the very first time in Nigeria, a subnational government gave grants of N100,000 to 65,000 people, amounting to N6.5 billion.”
Governor Idris added that his administration would continue to support all aspects of the programme both now and in the future, noting that Kebbi State cares for its people. He stressed that his government will continue to care and Kaura will continue to care.
He urged participants to be attentive and constructive in their criticism, and to ensure that the exercise serves as a platform for an improved NG-CARES 2.0 when it commences.
The Commissioner for Budget, Dr Abba Sani Kalgo, thanked Governor Idris for supporting the less privileged in the state, assuring that the current administration, under his leadership, has played its role in ensuring effective implementation of NG-CARES across Kebbi.
The statement further noted that Kebbi State has consistently ranked among the top-performing states in the NG-CARES programme in all four assessments conducted so far.
Also speaking, the National Coordinator of the Zonal Stakeholders’ Meeting, Dr Abdularim Obaje, commended the Kebbi State governor for his commitment to streamlining the programme. He explained that the meeting aimed to review the performance of the independent verification agent under NG-CARES, adding that it would provide an opportunity to assess the agents’ performance holistically, with a view to strengthening the verification process.
