Gang Violence: Hundreds of women protest in Kano

Hundreds of married and other women took to the streets in Kano, protesting frequent street gang fights which often results in the killing and maiming of inoccent residents.
The women who carried placards with different inscriptions, expressed worry that many of their husbands and children have lost their lives to the nefarious activities of gang groups known as Yandaba.
One of the women who did not want her name mentioned, said, “today our husbands and children are no longer safe with the attacks of the Daba Boys who storm at any giving time to attack.
“We cannot sleep with our two eyes closed because any time somebody might be chased into your house running to save his life. This is how bad the situation is”.
Another woman said ”we want the security agencies and the government to sincerely fight these criminals and eliminate them once and for all so that we will have peace in our area.
However, the Kano Command of the Nigeria Police claim it have recorded success in the fight against Daba and phone snatching.
The command said the government has put in place a joint committee headed by a Commissioner, Yusuf Kofar Mata, to fight the gang’s activities.
He said so far, hundreds of them have been put behind bars.
