Fear grips Ondo community as gunmen kidnap council worker

Suspected gunmen have abducted an official of Akure North Local Government, Mr. Gbenga Sanni, in Ilu-Abo community, Akure, Ondo State.

The incident occurred in front of his home at Agbelere area of Ilu-Abo.

Vanguard gathered that the assailants reportedly emerged from a nearby bush and whisked the victim to an unknown destination.

Sanni, an indigene of Akunu-Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government Area, had just returned home when the attackers struck.

Sources said his wife and two children were inside the house at the time of the abduction and watched helplessly as the gunmen carried out the operation.

“Three armed men came out of the nearby bush and whisked the victim away,” a source said.

Recall that no fewer than three residents of the community have been kidnapped in the last one month.

The latest abduction has thrown residents into fear and renewed concerns over growing insecurity in the area.

Police spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed the abduction.

Abayomi said officers and tactical teams of the command had been mobilised to the area to secure the safe rescue of the victim and apprehend those responsible.

Residents say the incident has heightened anxiety over rising insecurity in parts of Ondo State.
