Ex-defence spokesman’s abductors demand release of members, seized livestock

The abductors of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former director of defence information, and his wife have released a video showing the couple in captivity and outlining conditions for their release.

The couple were abducted along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, near Zakin Baure village.

In the four-minute video circulated on social media on Saturday, Abubakar’s wife conveyed the demands of the kidnappers, which included the release of three individuals identified as Sani, Aminu and Nasiru, as well as the return of livestock allegedly seized from them, Daily Trust reports.

According to her, two of the detained individuals were arrested in Jikamshi, while the third was arrested in Kano.

She appealed to the Katsina State Government and leaders of five local government areas to facilitate compliance with the demands in order to secure their release.

Speaking briefly in the video, the retired army officer called for efforts to promote peace, saying the abductors had expressed a willingness to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

According to Daily Trust, a notorious bandit leader, Kachallah Muhammad, who operates in parts of Katsina State, had reportedly established contact with the family of the retired general.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Katsina State Government nor security agencies had issued an official statement on the video or the demands made by the abductors.
