Evangel College celebrates milestone at 20th Valedictory and Graduation Ceremony

Evangel College, Okokomaiko, Lagos, marked a significant milestone on Saturday, July 19, 2025, as it hosted its 20th Valedictory Service and Graduation Ceremony. The event, held within the school premises, gathered dignitaries from the Assemblies of God Church, members of the Board of Governors, the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA), teachers, non-teaching staff, parents, and students in a spirit-filled celebration of growth, legacy, and achievement.

In his stirring welcome address, the Principal of Evangel College, Deacon Egwu Moses, reflected on the school’s remarkable journey. He recounted how the institution started on October 13, 1997, with only six students and a fragile dream. “We were not many, but we were enough—enough to begin, enough to hope, enough to say ‘yes’ to the hard and holy work of building something that would last,” he stated, drawing applause from the audience.

The Principal highlighted a pivotal moment in 2002 when 46 candidates from the young school sat for the WAEC/SSCE examinations—a testament to the growth and trust built within the institution. Since then, Evangel College has remained an approved center for external examinations and has become known as a nurturing ground for both academic and moral excellence.

This year’s graduation celebrated 97 students, each with unique stories of perseverance, hope, and support from parents, guardians, and staff. Deacon Moses emphasised that every graduate represents community effort, stating, “Behind every graduating student is a parent or guardian who stayed up praying, teachers who gave more than they were paid, and a system of people who refused to let them fall through the cracks.”

He paid tribute to parents and guardians as the students’ “first and most enduring teachers,” thanking them for entrusting the school with their children. The Board of Governors and PTA were recognised for their vital roles in steering policies and providing stability, while teachers and non-teaching staff received praise for their dedication and for making Evangel “more than a school—a calling.”

To the graduating class, Deacon Moses delivered a message of hope and responsibility: “You are stepping out into a world that will sometimes test everything you have learned here, but I pray you carry more than your certificates. Carry courage, kindness, the voice of truth, and above all, carry God.”

He also acknowledged the district leadership of the Assemblies of God Church for its consistent oversight, stating that their support has helped Evangel College earn a robust and uncontested reputation in Lagos State and beyond.

Closing his address, the principal called on parents, guardians, and stakeholders not to “stop believing in this school.” He reaffirmed the shared commitment to building more lives and dreams, urging continued support, wisdom, presence, and prayers for the college’s next chapter.

As Evangel College looks to the future, the 20th Valedictory and Graduation Ceremony served as a powerful reminder of how far the institution has come—and the promise that lies ahead for its students and the larger community.
