EPL: ‘You surprised me most’ – Martin Keown tells Arsenal star
Arsenal icon, Martin Keown has extended his congratulations to Noni Madueke for the club’s Premier League triumph this season.
The former footballer turned pundit acknowledged that Madueke ‘surprised’ him the most during a remarkable campaign for the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta’s squad clinched a 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace on the season’s final day before celebrating the Premier League title at Selhurst Park. Madueke netted the decisive goal for his team after Gabriel Jesus had opened the scoring for the visitors.
Before Madueke’s transfer from Chelsea to Arsenal last summer, the Gunners’ fans expressed their discontent regarding the club’s interest in the player. Rio Ferdinand intervened at that time to defend Madueke, criticizing the Arsenal supporters for their ‘vulgar’ conduct.
Madueke will now aim to have silenced his critics, and the fact that he scored the final goal of their unforgettable Premier League season is a fitting narrative.
Keown was quick to recognize this fact and commended the player for his ‘incredible’ performance this season. While speaking to Madueke after the match on Sunday.
Keown said via Metro UK, “Noni, you surprised me the most. Remember at the beginning I said one or two of the fans weren’t sure.
“But you’ve done an incredible job. You’re now going to a World Cup, you’ve won the Premier League. You’ve now really made a mark at this football club already.”
Madueke expressed his gratitude in response, stating that winning the league and being called up for the FIFA World Cup with England is a dream come true for him.
