ECOWAS court to launch strategic plan ‘Justice 2030’

The ECOWAS Court of Justice has announced plans to officially launch its Strategic Plan 2026–2030, entitled “Justice 2030,” on May 27, as part of efforts to strengthen justice delivery and promote the rule of law across the sub-region.

The court said the new strategic framework represents a major step toward enhancing human rights protection and improving access to justice within the ECOWAS Community.

According to a statement, the five-year plan provides a comprehensive roadmap to guide the court’s operations, with key priorities focused on improving judicial efficiency, expanding access to justice for citizens, and strengthening regional legal harmonisation.

It also aims to enhance institutional capacity, promote transparency, and deepen engagement with stakeholders.

The court noted that the plan is designed to address emerging challenges facing regional justice systems, including increasing case volumes, complex human rights litigation, and the need for digital transformation in judicial processes.

The launch event is expected to bring together heads of ECOWAS institutions and partner organisations, providing a platform for dialogue on strengthening cooperation and mobilising support for the implementation of the plan.

The court reaffirmed its commitment to delivering timely, impartial and accessible justice, while consolidating its role in safeguarding the rule of law and human rights in the region.
It added that the “Justice 2030” initiative reflects its determination to build on past achievements and respond effectively to evolving justice needs within the ECOWAS Community.
