Easter: Corruption won’t define Nigeria, we’ll overcome it — EFCC

Nigeria will overcome corruption and cannot be defined or defeated by it, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said on Saturday, striking a defiant tone in its Easter message to the nation.

The anti-graft agency used the moment to steady public confidence, urging Nigerians to see corruption not as a permanent national identity, but as a challenge that can be confronted and defeated through collective resolve and sustained institutional effort.

The Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, delivered the message in Abuja as Christians across the country marked Easter.

“We are not defined by corruption; we cannot be defeated by it,” Olukoyede said.

He cast Easter as more than a religious celebration, pointing to its deeper meaning, victory in the face of suffering, and why that message matters for Nigeria right now.

“The lesson of Easter is all about undeniable victory over trial, corruption and death. This lesson is instructive for us as a nation,” he said.

The EFCC chairman said the country would eventually overcome what he described as the “trial and trauma” of corruption, insisting that the present moment does not define Nigeria’s future.

“We will surely overcome the trial and trauma of corruption,” he added.

Olukoyede also appealed directly to Nigerians not to give up on the fight, calling for sustained public support as the EFCC continues its campaign against economic and financial crimes.

He urged citizens to keep hope alive and stay aligned with the commission’s efforts, describing the anti-corruption drive as a long, unrelenting struggle that requires collective resolve.
