Early morning inferno ravages residential building in Oyo

A residential building in Oyo town in Oyo State has been ravaged by fire.

DAILY POST gathered that the building is located at Olugbile House, Iyalamu area of Oyo.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.

It was learnt that the residential building was gutted by fire around 5:00 am on Thursday.

Our correspondent learnt that household items and properties worth millions of naira were affected in the inferno.

Sources informed that no life was lost as a result of the incident.

The Chairman, Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

Akinwande made this declaration via a statement made available to DAILY POST. He said that no life was lost in the incident.

Akinwande, while speaking further, maintained that men of the agency were immediately mobilised to the scene immediately they were contacted.

He encouraged residents to provide necessary information about any case of fire incident on time.

He added that the fire was as a result of a lighted cigarette stub left unattended to by one of the occupants of the building.

He said that the cigarette ignited combustible materials and set the house ablaze. He then advised the residents to give correct address and contact the following emergency lines of the agency in case of any fire incident: 08067439223 and 08054353501 or 615.

“Upon arrival at the scene of incident, our officers met two (2) rooms out of eight (8) rooms of an ancient residential building on fire. They quickly swung into action and the fire was subdued and restricted from spreading beyond the two rooms.

“The fire was completely extinguished, the occupants, sympathizers and onlookers were sensitized on fire prevention, particularly the importance of having fire extinguishers at every household in the state. The fire incident was as a result of a lighted cigarette stub left unattended to by one of the occupants and ignited combustible materials which set the house ablaze.
