Detty December 2025: Ciara’s Lagos visit sets tone

Ahead of Detty December, American-Beninoise Grammy Award winning artist, Ciara has caused quite a stir in the Lagos social scene when she arrived to participate in the Lagos Fashion Week 2025, and actually walked the runway at the Federal Palace Hotel Ballroom, venue of the event.
It was her first visit since 2006 and apparently could not hide her excitement at the city’s transformation, saying the streets now look “clean and developed.”
Official welcome
She was officially welcomed at Lagos House Marina at a brunch hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for creatives, including designers, artists and industry leaders who continue to put Lagos on the global map, according to the state’s number one citizen.
Expressing his delight, the governor said Ciara’s presence highlights the “growing global interest in Lagos as a hub for creativity and style.”
Lagos Fashion Week
In a most iconic moment, Ciara took a walk down a runway at the Lagos Fashion Week 2025, resplendent in a red custom Fruche bubu to a gospel Igbo music.
Elegant and edgy, yet soft and friendly, she had fans screaming even from the front row and her appearance was the highlight of the show.
The first show of the Lagos Fashion season (October/November), Lagos Fashion Week is a key destination, according to the organisers, for discovering African fashion and connecting with the global fashion community.
Visit to Balogun
To the amazement of her local fans, Ciara also visited the aso ebi side of the popular Balogun Market in Lagos Island for some actual fabric shopping. She informed her throng of admirers she would be sewing clothes for her children and husband. She also had a photo opportunity with the local children.
“You’ve taken over the city,” was what Governor Sanwo-Olu told her when he ran into her in town.
“I am home,” was her excited response.
He also hailed her for her interest in the local side of town, especially the markets.
She has also found time to visit the famous Nike Art Gallery where she also got to dress in the stereotypical grandiose native adire bubu with exaggerated head dress and irukere.
40th birthday
Part of her reason for visiting Nigeria was to celebrate her belated 40th birthday hosted by Lagos Tourism and an entertainment company. The event held at the prestigious Timothy Oulton in Lagos, where she got to cut her real Nigerian birthday cake.
Rehash with Naomi
Echoes of Ciara’s visit continue to reverberate as she reunited with veteran supermodel, Naomi Campbell at a fashion event in France, the CFDA Awards this week.
“Lagos is insane,” she gushed to Naomi as they shared experiences and Nigerian cuisine; jollof rice, fish stew, sugar. To crown it all, both promised to return for Detty December, for “back to back” vibes.
