CHAN: Nigeria occupy bottom spot in Group D table behind Senegal, Sudan, Congo

The home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria are currently sitting at the bottom spot of Group D at the ongoing African Nations Championship, CHAN, competition.

This follows their disappointing 1-0 defeat to defending champions Senegal in their opening encounter on Tuesday.

Recall that both teams struggled to gain control of the match in the opening minutes with Nigeria edging possession.

Nigeria had their first shot on target in the 21st minute, but Sikiru Alimi’s tame effort was comfortably saved by the Senegalese goalkeeper.

Nigeria dominated the opening period of the second half but Senegal stood strong at the back.

However, Senegal then took the lead through Christian Kobi 15 minutes from time as the match eventually ended in a 1-0 win.

The outcome of the match means Senegal now sits at the top of Group D with three points, while Congo and Sudan occupy the second and third positions, respectively with one point each.

Nigeria, meanwhile, are bottom with zero points after one game.

The Eagles will now take on Sudan in their second Group D game at the Amman Stadium, Zanzibar next week Tuesday.
