Benue’s Taraku Mills 75 percent ready for full production – Contractor
By Peter Duru, Makurdi
A team of engineers from Al Wadi Al Akhdar Oil Mills, Asher, Cairo, Egypt, has inspected the long abandoned Taraku Mills in Benue State and rated the facility 75 percent ready for full-scale production following ongoing rehabilitation of the plant.
The team, led by Saleh Mansury, carried out an on-site assessment of the factory alongside officials of the Corporate Communications and Information Technology Unit (CCIT) of the Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC).
The inspection covered key sections of the factory, with the engineers assessing its equipment, operational processes and production systems to determine its preparedness for the resumption of full-scale operations.
Speaking after the assessment, Mansury said the facility was in good condition, noting that only about 25 percent of work remained to get it fully operational.
“The factory is about 75 percent ready for full production. What is remaining is basically some minor upgrades in certain sections to bring the facility in line with modern technology,” he said.
Mansury identified the boiler and solvent machine as major areas requiring attention, explaining that upgrading the equipment would improve operational efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
He said the Egyptian team was prepared to commence full-scale production once the identified upgrades were completed, adding that plans were also underway to introduce additional production lines, particularly for cake production.
The engineer also called on farmers in Benue State to increase the cultivation of soybeans, groundnuts and maize, stressing that the crops were critical raw materials required to sustain the factory’s operations.
Also speaking, James Emmanuel of BIPC corroborated the assessment, saying the factory was in good condition and capable of operating effectively.
Emmanuel said the completion of the required upgrades, particularly in the boiler and solvent sections, would position the factory to operate at full production capacity.
He stated that inspection formed part of ongoing efforts to revitalise Taraku Mills, optimise its production capacity and establish a clear timeline for the commencement of full-scale production.
