Bayelsa APC holds first stakeholders’ meeting, endorses Tinubu for 2027 re-election

In a show of unity and political strength, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State on Tuesday held its first stakeholders’ meeting, setting a clear course for the party’s growth and cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, convened by Governor Douye Diri at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa, saw party leaders formally endorse President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election. The endorsement motion was moved by Senator representing Bayelsa Central, Dr. Konbowei Benson, and seconded by former Speaker of the House of Assembly and ex-deputy governor, Peremobowei Ebebi.

Among those in attendance were Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee, Dr. Dennis Otiotio; Senator representing Bayelsa East, Chief Benson Agadaga; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri; Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr. Sam Ogbuku; and Managing Director of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, alongside other stakeholders and ex-officio members of the party.

Governor Diri, who became a member and leader of the APC in Bayelsa in October 2025, praised the meeting as a demonstration of the party’s unity. He urged members to embrace forgiveness, humility, and inclusive politics, cautioning aspirants for elective offices to temporarily shelve ambitions in order to prioritize the collective goal of delivering President Tinubu for a second term.

“Political parties are vehicles for development. Let us truly be progressives. Whatever positions you want to contest for—whether governorship, House of Assembly, or National Assembly—please put it on hold for now. Our main objective is to ensure that President Tinubu returns for a second term,” Diri said.

Senator Lokpobiri and other stakeholders, including Speaker of the State Assembly Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, former APC governorship candidate David Lyon, and Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, lauded the governor for his inclusive leadership, which they said would strengthen party cohesion and advance APC’s objectives in the state.

Dr. Dennis Otiotio, APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, emphasized the importance of the party’s ongoing electronic membership exercise to ensure the capture of genuine voters, noting that the meeting was key to consolidating the party after decades of fragmentation.

A minute of silence was observed in honour of the late Senator John Brambaifa, former representative of Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the 5th National Assembly, who passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026, in Abuja.
