Atiku welcomes Kwankwaso to ADC

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has welcomed former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to the African Democratic Congress  (ADC).

Kwankwaso defected to the coalition-backed party on Monday following his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on Sunday.

The 2023 presidential candidate of the NNPP joined the ADC in Kano, where he registered as a member and received his party card.

Reacting to the development, Atiku, in a short tweet, welcomed Kwankwaso, saying, “When men of conviction come together, power trembles. Welcome aboard.”

His tweet was accompanied with a photo of the ex-Kano governor raising his ADC membership card signifying his official defection to the party.

Some of the political figures present at the event  includr David Mark, Aminu Tambuwal, Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, Dino Melaye, and John Odigie-Oyegun.

Prior to Kwankwaso’s defection, Atiku and the ex-governor had met in Abuja on Saturday.

In a statement on X, the ex-Vice President described the meeting as a courtesy visit during which they discussed national issues.

He wrote: “This evening, I received the former Governor of Kano State and the Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on a courtesy visit. We had a robust discussion on the state of the nation,” he wrote on his social media handles.”
