Arik Air flight to PH diverted after engine anomaly — NSIB

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has said that an engine anomaly triggered the emergency diversion of an Arik Air Boeing 737-700 aircraft during a scheduled flight on 11 February 2026.

The Bureau disclosed this in its preliminary report on the serious incident involving the aircraft with nationality and registration marks 5N-MJF, operated by Arik Air Limited.

A statement signed by Funke Arowojobe, Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, NSIB, noted that the aircraft was en route from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, to Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo International Airport, Port Harcourt, when the flight crew reported an abnormal engine event.

The development prompted the activation of emergency procedures and a diversion to Benin, the nearest suitable airport.

NSIB stated that the aircraft landed safely and that all passengers and crew members onboard disembarked without injuries.

The preliminary report contains factual information gathered so far, including details from the flight crew, air traffic control communications, flight recorders, and the initial examination of the aircraft.

The Bureau noted that investigations remain ongoing and that further technical examinations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It added that the information in the preliminary report is subject to additional review and analysis.

The final report, according to NSIB, will present the Bureau’s conclusions and safety recommendations.
