Alleged Christian Genocide: US, Trump threatening Nigeria due to economic gains- Gumi

An Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has claimed that the United States of America and its President, Donald Trump, are threatening Nigeria due to some economic gains.

Gumi made the claims while speaking at the opening of a one-day summit organised by the Congregation of Southern Nigerian Ulammahs.

The summit with the theme “Confronting the economic and security challenges facing Islamic Ummah in Southern Nigeria” was held in Ibadan on Wednesday.

However, Gumi claims that America and Trump want to divide the country for economic gains, noting that there are some natural resources in some parts of the country which the US and its President are targeting to occupy thorough division of the citizens.

Gumi, who admitted that there are some security challenges facing the country, noted that Nigerians must work to solve the problems locally.

He then advised Nigerians not to allow any foreigner to divide the country due to their own self-interests.

“You see if truly he wants to help Nigeria, that is not the language to use. It is language of accusing us, threatening us, disgracing us in the political scene. If you want to help people, that is not the language to use.

“Yes because of economic gains. The same way they are threatening Venezuela now. So they always have a motive. They always have a reason, but it is not Christianity. But now, Christians in Palestine are complaining of attacks from the Jewish community, churches were destroyed and America is doing nothing.

“So, for America to use religion, it means it has ulterior motives which we should all be careful. We Muslims and Christians, we are living fine in this country. So, how can we allow a foreigner to divide us. It is because of our resources.

“I am from Zamfara State, there are a lot of gold in Zamfara and other states. It is because of all these that they want to divide us. So, we should not allow them to divide us. We should not allow any foreigner to divide us. Kaduna State, most of the local government areas are very peaceful, just only in Zamfara, Kebbi and Sokoto. It is not like before, people have to be patient. Generally, Nigerians have to be patient”.
