ADC slams Tinubu over Argungu Festival amid rising insecurity

ABUJA — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised President Bola Tinubu for attending the Argungu fishing festival while insecurity worsens across the country.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the President’s presence came as credible reports indicate that nearly 1,300 Nigerians were killed within 41 days, while hundreds, including children and nursing mothers, remain in captivity.

“We are concerned that at a time of rising insecurity, the President was attending a fishing festival while innocent Nigerians continue to suffer the tragic brunt of terror,” the party said.

The ADC also highlighted a video allegedly released by terrorists regarding recent abductions in Kaiama Local Government Area, challenging official figures on the number of kidnapped victims. The party warned that insurgent activity along the Kaiama–Kainji corridor, which connects to Oyo State, could increase vulnerabilities across parts of the North Central and South West.

The party called on the government to rescue abducted victims, conduct a security audit of the corridor, strengthen coordination across Kwara–Niger–Oyo, and maintain clear public communication to counter terrorist propaganda and restore public confidence.
