2025 Community Shield: Liverpool, Crystal Palace set for showdown

The 2025/2026 Premier League campaign will kick off with the traditional Community Shield clash, as Liverpool take on Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium this Sunday.

The annual curtain-raiser pits the league champions against the FA Cup winners.

In his debut season in England, Arne Slot guided Liverpool to a record-equalling 20th league title, finishing 10 points clear of Arsenal and ending Manchester City’s four-year dominance.

Slot’s side has seen changes over the summer, with Trent Alexander-Arnold departing for Real Madrid on a free transfer.

However, new arrivals Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike, and Milos Kerkez have bolstered the squad as Liverpool aim to maintain their winning momentum.

For Palace, Eberechi Eze remains the key man after scoring the decisive goal against Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Strongly linked with a move to Arsenal, this match could be his final outing for the Eagles — and another opportunity to secure silverware for the Selhurst Park side.

Historically, only Manchester United and Arsenal have lifted the Community Shield more times than Liverpool. Palace, in contrast, are making their first-ever appearance in the fixture.

Kick-off is set for 3pm at Wembley.
