Residents of Gummi town in Zamfara State turned out in large numbers to welcome and applaud troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, following a successful operation against suspected terrorists at Dutsen Gidan Hill in Gummi Local Government Area.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba.
According to the statement, the troops returned to base after carrying out the operation at Dutsen Gidan Hill, about 17 kilometres from Gummi town, where they neutralised scores of suspected terrorists and recovered dozens of motorcycles allegedly used by the criminals to terrorise communities.
The recovered motorcycles were transported to the military base on an Armoured Personnel Carrier, APC.
Osoba said the troops were received by a large crowd of residents who gathered at the base to express appreciation for their bravery and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and banditry.
He noted that the spontaneous reception reflected growing public confidence in ongoing military operations across the North-West and highlighted the strengthening relationship between local communities and security forces.
The state government described the operation as a major breakthrough in efforts to tackle terrorism and restore peace across the state.
Osoba reaffirmed the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to sustaining the offensive against terrorists and bandits, while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to enhance ongoing operations.
