World Cup: Troy Deeney names team to knock England out of tournament

Former Watford captain, Troy Deeney, has expressed doubts over England’s ability to reach the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former Premier League star believes that Argentina will beat the Three Lions in the semi-finals should both teams overcome their next opponents.

The Three Lions are gearing up for a crucial quarter-final match against Norway following a valiant victory over co-hosts Mexico.

Deeney said that Norway will pose a ‘tough’ challenge for the Three Lions, and while he anticipates England advancing to the semi-finals, he doubts their ability to overcome potential semi-final rivals Argentina.

Argentina appeared to be on the verge of a shocking exit in the last-16 as they found themselves trailing Egypt 2-0 with thirty minutes left, but the reigning World Cup champions executed a remarkable comeback to keep their title defense intact.

“That is not the case; I simply have certain expectations. It relates to what I am told and what I observe. Thomas Tuchel informed us that we would adopt a more aggressive approach and witness a markedly different England.

“Thus far, I have not observed that in this tournament. My assessment is based on his statements, not on my own assumptions. It is not as if I possess an unrealistic expectation.

“With every match I have watched, I am left with increasing uncertainty. I do not adhere to the notion that because England has won, we are destined to win the World Cup.

“It will be challenging, as we have struggled to penetrate well-organized teams that employ a low defensive block.

“I expect us to win against Norway, but at this moment, I would still favor Argentina to defeat us in the semi-final if we progress.”
