World Cup 2026: 17 coaches lose jobs as Spain triumph [Full list]

Rudi Garcia is the latest coach to depart from his position following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament on Sunday, which saw Spain defeat Argentina 1-0 in the final.

Garcia’s contract will not be extended as the head coach of Belgium’s football national team.

The 62-year-old now joins 16 other coaches to lose their jobs, having guided Belgium to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, where they were defeated by eventual champions, Spain.

In a statement released on Monday, the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) announced the end of its partnership with Garcia, whose contract expires on 31 July.

Here is the list of 17 national team coaches leaving their posts following tournament disappointments or expiring contracts:

Didier Deschamps – He stepped down as France’s coach after an extensive 14-year tenure.

Roberto Martínez – He stepped down following a Round of 16 elimination against Spain.

Zlatko Dalic – He stepped down after a  9-year tenure following a Round of 32 exit against Portugal.

Javier Aguirre – He resigned after elimination in the Round of 16 against England

Ronald Koeman – He resigned as the Netherlands coach after a Round of 32 elimination.

Sebastián Beccacece – He resigned as Ecuador coach after being eliminated in the Round of 32.

Marcelo Bielsa – He stepped down as Uruguay coach after the tournament.

Steve Clarke – He stepped down as Scotland coach following a group stage exit.

Hong Myung-bo – He resigned as South Korea’s coach following an early elimination.

Sabri Lamouchi – He was sacked as Tunisia coach after the first game of the tournament following a 5-1 defeat.

Miroslav Koubek – He resigned as Czechia’s coach after group stage elimination.

Pape Thiaw – His contract was terminated as Senegal’s coach following the team’s exit.

Rudi Garcia – He departed his role as Belgium coach after a quarter-final exit.

Carlos Queiroz – He resigned as Ghana coach after a Round of 32 exit.

Jamal Sellami – He departed his role as Jordan coach after an early exit.

Vladimir Petković  – He left his role as Algeria coach after an early tournament exit.

Julian Nagelsmann – He stepped down as Germany coach after a Round of 32 exit.
