Woman accused of flogging 12-year-old boy to death surrenders to Anambra police

A 47-year-old woman, Mrs. Dim Ebere, who was accused of flogging a 12-year-old pupil to death in Adazi-Ani, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, has surrendered to the police.

Ebere reportedly turned herself in at the Neni Police Station in the local government area following a sustained manhunt by operatives of the Anambra State Police Command’s Safe School Protection Squad and officers of the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Anambra State, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development, saying the suspect voluntarily presented herself and is currently in police custody.

Ikenga said Ebere would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, where further investigation into the incident is ongoing.

He commended residents of Adazi-Ani community, traditional leaders and other stakeholders for their cooperation and support, noting that their efforts contributed to the suspect’s decision to surrender.

The police spokesperson assured the family of the deceased and members of the public that the command would ensure a thorough investigation and that justice would be served.

He also appealed for calm, urging residents not to take the law into their own hands but to continue providing relevant information that could assist investigators.

The incident was reported last week after police operatives responded to a distress call and rushed the victim to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited in a hospital morgue pending an autopsy to determine further details surrounding the death.
