We’ll rescue abducted Kebbi schoolgirls, honour late vice principal – Shettima

Kebbi State – Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has described the recent abduction of schoolgirls in Maga village, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, as a national tragedy.

Shettima, who visited Kebbi to console the people, assured that the federal government would spare no effort in securing the safe return of the abducted girls. “Kebbi’s pain is Nigeria’s pain,” he said, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deeply concerned and remains committed to the rescue operations.

He vowed that all available state apparatus would be deployed to ensure the girls are returned unharmed. Shettima also pledged support for the family of the late vice principal, who reportedly lost his life defending the students. “We will honour and take care of the family. His sacrifice will not be in vain,” he said.

The Vice President commended the efforts of the Nigerian military, police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for their frontline work in protecting citizens. He particularly acknowledged the contribution of the late Brigadier General, stating that his sacrifice will be remembered.

Shettima also lauded Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, describing him as “a true son of the North” and commending his leadership in the area of security.

The Vice President’s visit included top officials such as the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, the Humanitarian Minister, the Minister of Women Affairs, and the APC National Chairman.

Governor Idris thanked Shettima and the President for their show of solidarity, expressing confidence in the federal government’s ability to address insecurity in the state.
