UMUAHIA – The All Progressives Congress,APC, Abia State chapter, has condemned the continued hosting of government meetings and activities at Governor Alex Otti’s residence at Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, stressing that all policies and decisions taken at the private residence are null and void and unacceptable to the party.
Chairman of the Abia APC ,Hon. Chijioke Chukwu,who stated this while addressing party faithful during an empowerment event sponsored by Chief Erondu Uchenna Erondu in his birthday,in Obingwa council area, alleged that the hosting of government activities at the Governor’s private residence, instead of the state capital in Umuahia,has killed lives and economic activities in Umuahia.
He noted that the only way to return economic activities to Umuahia is to return the state capital to the city which is the seat of power recognized by the Nigerian constitution.
Earlier, the celebrant, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, who is the member representing Obingwa West at the State House of Assembly,said the empowerment programme was part of his commitment to improve the economic wellbeing of the people through sustainable opportunities and urged the beneficiaries to utilize the 150 motorcycles, 15 vehicles and other support items to grow their businesses and support their families.
The APC chairman said;” The Governor has taken the Abia State Government House away from Umuahia and killed lives and economic activities. He is promising that he will build a five star hotel in Umuahia,after taking away the Government House to his bedroom. Is that governance? No.
“Umuahia doesn’t need require a five star hotel,the first thing the government needs to do is to return the Government House to the state capital ,Umuahia. The only way to return economic activities to Umuahia is to return the Government House. Government House can’t be in somebody’s bedroom.
“Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator Theodore Orji and Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu were Governors at different times for 8 each years, respectively. They left the Government House in Umuahia,not in somebody’s bedroom. Every decision made in the Governor’s bedroom at Nvosi ,is null and void, because that place isn’t a seat of power.
“Umuahia people held a reception for the Governor recently,they promised him 60% of their votes. When a sitting Governor meets his party and they say , we will give 60% of our votes.
“Where will the 40% of the votes go to? It means that they have already acknowledged failure. APC has not opened her mouth for campaigns,APC has already accepted defeat. You can see that he has been Governor for less than three years,but his rating has moved from 100% to 60%. By the time campaigns start,he will not have 10% votes. There’s no polling unit in the social media,we are already sure of all the votes in Obingwa council and Abia South . I thank the PDP for accepting a rainbow coalition. Together,we will make Abia better. Let the APC prepare their handover notes because time is no longer on their side.”
