We will tackle insecurity, roads, education with stakeholders, NCDC chairman assures

ABUJA- CHAIRMAN, Governing Board of the North Central Development Commission, NCDC, Barrister Cosmas Ternenge Akighir has assured that the Commission will collaborate with all the Governors in the geo- political zone and relevant stakeholders, with a view to tackling the unending cases of insecurity, poor road networks, health and education across the region.

The pioneer Chairman of the board for the newly created Commission stfessed the need for him and his team to work in synergy with state governments of the region as well as individuals and corporate organizations.

Speaking yesterday in Abuja when the Jemgbagh Active and Retired Directors Association hosted a dinner in his honour, Akighir said that such measure would leave the Commission standing tall “when others are sitting down”.

He said, ” We have a robust roadmap for the development of our people. In education, health delivery, road networks etc. In insecurity, we will liase with the local vigilante, but in partnership with the relevant state governments. Infact,in all our endeavors we shall get in all needed stakeholders to drive down our agenda through,so I see the commission as a model that would be the envy of others.

“Our region holds the key to mineral deposits in Nigeria. I think about 40% of the mineral deposits is tucked beneath the surface of the North Central geopolitical zone. So, we will do everything within our mandate to ensure its proper handling, bringing jobs and revenue to our people and government. We will engage our people in irrigation farming,to boost food security and sovereignty which is a core mantra of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Earlier in his remarks, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume hailed President Tinubu for the appointment of Barrister Akighir as the pioneer Board Chairman of the North Central Development Commission, just as he urged him to always consult elders and liase with relevant stakeholders so he will succeed with ease.

Represented by the Minister for Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Professor Joseph Terlumun Utsev, Senator George Akume said, ” Barrister Cosmas is a young man with bursting visions. I’m happy with his appointment, which I will say is well deserved. I thank President Tinubu for the appointment. I thank him for my own appointment as well as for that of our father, His Excellency, Senator George Akume who has been tirelessly providing him with the needed advice. We are all from the Jemgbagh axis of Benue State. I will only advise Barrister Cosmas Ternenge Akighir to always seek advice from the elders, consult far and wide and carry all relevant stakeholders on board so his success will be smooth.”

When asked on his ministry’s socio economic drives, the Minister said, “coming on board, we went round to examine irrigable lands, the state of our dams and in conjunction with private and development partners, the government is doing the needful by reviving and rehabiliting the dams. The essence is to ensure our farmers do farm all year round, increasing yield, revenue and ensuring food sufficiency and sovereignty, which is at the heart of the President”.

Earlier in his remarks, Chairman Jemgbagh Active and Retired Directors, Sir Frank Aul Mku said, ” our leader, His Excellency, Senator George Akume. We have over 100 members. We are not a political party but we are solidly behind and loyal to you. We sincerely appreciate your political dexterity, which has brought out the name of Jemgbagh to the forefront. Under my own capacity, I wish our son who we are celebrating tonight, Barrister Cosmas Ternenge Akighir all the best.”
