The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Sokoto State, Abubakar Abdullahi Sokoto, has revealed that the party has no alternative to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Abdullahi said the Sokoto PDP was negotiating an alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, through the Rainbow Coalition, a political platform associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
He made the disclosure during a stakeholders’ meeting at the PDP secretariat along Bodinga Road in Sokoto.
According to him, the proposed arrangement is aimed at mobilising support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition while allowing the PDP to retain its candidates for other elective positions in the state.
“Our position is to work towards President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition through the Rainbow Coalition. We have no alternative presidential candidate apart from him,” Abdullahi said.
He explained that the alliance would not mean the PDP was abandoning its political structure or candidates contesting elective positions in Sokoto State.
“We are not abandoning our party structure or our candidates. We will continue to mobilise and campaign for PDP candidates seeking elective positions across the state in 2027,” he said.
However, Abdullahi said party members could be encouraged to support APC candidates in areas where PDP candidates lacked sufficient electoral support.
The governorship candidate said the coalition was open to political parties, groups and individuals willing to support its objectives, regardless of their political affiliations.
He also appealed to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to reconsider his political position and join the alliance in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid.
He said the proposed alliance was intended to bring political interests together through consultations and cooperation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
