Ayo Kuti, son of renowned Nigerian Afrobeat musician and saxophonist Femi Kuti, has revealed that he lost his virginity at 16 after learning his father had done so at 17.
Ayo shared this in a recent live stream with Davreal, saying that he lost his virginity before the age of 18 because he wanted to outdo his father to be “number one in my family”.
He said, “The reason I lost my virginity at 16 is because my dad told me that he lost his at 17. I wanted to be number one in my family. My dad is a bad boy.”
Ayo’s comment has drawn mixed reactions on social media.
His father, Femi, who is the son of the late Afrobeat legend and pioneer Fela Kuti, is also known for being open about his views on sex and marriage.
In a 2012 interview, the singer revealed that his marriage to Funke Kuti ended because he could not be a faithful partner to one woman.
Speaking of his marriage, Femi said, “My marriage didn’t last because my wife didn’t listen to me. I told her I loved women. I like women around me, and I will not be faithful to one woman. My wife wasn’t comfortable with my fame and the women in my life, and that was why we had to part ways.”
