VANGUARD ECONOMIC DISCOURSE: Farmers, food entrepreneurs brainstorm for sector growth

Nigeria’s agriculture and food sector is set for a major insight sharing on the performance of the sector and way forward at the upcoming Vanguard Economic Discourse. 

The 2026 edition of the Vanguard Economic Discourse is scheduled to hold this week, Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos starting by 9am.

The theme of this year’s edition is “Food Security and Socio-economic Stability: Options for Nigeria’s Agriculture Sector Rebound”.

Leading groups in the agriculture sector have concluded plans to make bold presentations at the event where Federal Government and other private sector leaders would be fully represented.

President of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Hon. Muhammad Magaji Gettado and president of Nigeria Agribusiness Group (NABG), Arc. Kabir Ibrahim, would be leading their member organizations to the event where the two would also be on the panel of discussants.

Gettado, an Economics graduate of The American International University and also a holder of a National Diploma in Agriculture, has held several responsibilities across National and State public institutions in the agricultural space, some of which includes: 

Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Gombe State; Member of the Board of Directors of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation, Ilorin; Management Staff at the Nigerian Agric Insurance Company.

He is expected to bring this rich experience to the discussion table.

Also to contribute a rich knowledge, Arc. Kabir Ibrahim, who holds BSc and MSc in Architecture from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, began his career in the private sector and founded a consulting firm, Kebram Associates in 1987. 

Kabir diversified into Agriculture and founded Kebram Farms Ltd and Kebram Agritrade Ltd.

Due to his active involvement in Nigeria’s agric and food value chain he became the President of Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) between 2008-2012; and President of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) between 2014-2025. 

He is the current President of Nigeria Agribusiness Group (NABG). Kabir is also the Chairman BOT, National Agricultural Foundation of Nigeria (NAFN), 2023-date; Chairman Agriculture Trade Group of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), 2026/2027 and member of Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce (NACC) 2025-date among others.

The Vanguard Economic Discourse event which parades an array of key agro-sector leaders, has the Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, as the chairman.

The Honorable Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Muktar Maiha, is the Co-Chairman of the event, while Dr. Hussein Gadain, ECOWAS/ Nigeria Resident Representative of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation (UN/ FAO)  is setting the stage for incisive discussion as the Keynote Speaker.

A group of eminent stakeholders in Nigeria’s agriculture and food value chain drawn from public and private sectors have been assembled as panelists.

It will feature Mrs Dede Ahoefa Ekoue, Country Director, United Nations’ International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

Dr. Moji Davids, the Managing Director of Xtralarge Global Agritourism Ltd (UK), is a trailblazing agripreneur, would also be on the panel.

The eminent stakeholders slated to contribute knowledge at the event would also include representatives of financial institutions with the Agric Desks of Commercial Banks in the formal and networking sessions.
