Troops foil terrorists attack in Sokoto, rescue driver as vigilantes kill four suspects

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have repelled separate terrorist attacks in parts of Sokoto State, rescuing a driver and preventing further abductions.

Sources said the incident occurred on September 3, when troops of 8 Division on a fighting patrol along Sabon Birnin–Isa Road engaged terrorists who attempted to block the route.

The attackers were forced to flee after a gun battle, while troops rescued a driver conveying frozen fish and assisted in towing his vehicle to Sabon Birnin.

Later that night, around 11:30 p.m, terrorists invaded Tungar Makera village in Wurno Local Government Area, where they kidnapped four residents before fleeing.

According to the sources, troops pursued the attackers but could not establish contact.

On September 4, around 8:55 a.m, seven suspected terrorists were accosted by locals in Kaura village, Shagari Local Government Area.

“Unfortunately, four of the suspects were lynched by a mob led by Yansakai vigilantes before troops arrived. The remaining three were rescued and handed over to security authorities for further action,” the source said.
