Transfer: AC Milan announce deal for two Nigerian players

Italian powerhouse, AC Milan, has announced the exit of two Nigerian players, Victor Eletu and Zachary Athekame, as the Serie A side prepare for the upcoming 2026/2027 season.

Athekame, who holds eligibility to represent both Nigeria and Switzerland, joined the Rossoneri last summer after a standout season with Swiss club Young Boys.

The young fullback had a commendable debut season in Italy, netting two goals and providing two assists across 27 league matches.

However, despite his contributions, Athekame has found it challenging to impress the new manager, Ruben Amorim, during the pre-season as he adjusts to the new tactical setup.

The former Manchester United manager has opted to utilize Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze in the wing-back role, which has limited Athekame’s opportunities for regular playing time as the new season approaches.

AC Milan announced the transfer in a statement on the club’s official website, revealing that Athekame will spend the 2026/2027 season on loan at Lyon.

In addition, the Italian club also disclosed the permanent departure of former Flying Eagles winger Victor Eletu, who has signed with Pescara Calcio, after facing difficulties in securing a place in the first team.

Eletu, who played for Milan’s youth teams, will now transition to Pescara in search of consistent first-team action with the Serie C side, Youthsoccer camps

As the new season approaches, Eletu will be eager to make an impact at Pescara, rejuvenate his career, and continue his development
