Tinubu’s campaign group challenges Atiku to provide evidence of DSS plot against ADC rally
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign group has challenged the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, to provide Nigerians with evidence to substantiate his allegations against the Department of State Services, DSS.
Recall that Atiku, at a press conference on Tuesday, accused the DSS of planning to mobilise protesters against the ADC’s scheduled rally on Wednesday.
The DSS had since responded to Atiku, dismissing the allegation. The agency also urged the former Vice President not to dampen the morale of its operatives with such claims.
Reacting, Tinubu Movement for Sustainable Governance, TMS Director-General, Marcel Ngogbehei, in a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Adebisi Adams, said Atiku’s allegation should be supported by credible evidence and subjected to an impartial investigation.
“These are serious accusations. They deserve credible evidence, due process and an impartial investigation.”
The group maintained that political disagreements should not be allowed to undermine national security or public confidence in government institutions.
“Our security agencies carry the enormous responsibility of protecting Nigerians, maintaining public order and safeguarding democratic activities, regardless of political affiliation. Their professionalism, independence and credibility must not become casualties of political competition,” it said.
DAILY POST reports that Atiku commenced his campaign in Sokoto on Wednesday amid the allegations and counter-allegations.
