KADUNA – Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving strategic infrastructure contracts worth over ₦1 trillion and ₦178 billion aimed at transforming transportation and connectivity in the state.

In a statement on behalf of the Kaduna State Government, the governor commended the Federal Executive Council for the approval of key projects, describing them as transformative investments expected to reshape mobility, security, and economic activity across the state.

Central to the approvals is the Kaduna Light Rail Project, a 50-kilometre urban transit system comprising a 30-kilometre corridor from Rigachikun to Sabon Tasha and a 20-kilometre line from Millennium City to Rigasa. The project is valued at about ₦1 trillion.

Also approved is the reconstruction of the Mando–Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road, a 122-kilometre highway project valued at ₦178 billion.

According to the statement, the light rail project aligns with Kaduna State’s broader transport reform agenda, which includes the ongoing development of a Bus Rapid Transit system and the introduction of compressed natural gas-powered buses to promote cleaner and more efficient public transport.

The governor noted that Kaduna’s selection for the light rail initiative reflects confidence in the state’s planning and execution capacity, describing it as a major milestone in Northern Nigeria’s infrastructure development.

He added that the integration of rail and road transport systems is expected to improve urban mobility, enhance logistics, and stimulate economic growth across key sectors.

On the Birnin Gwari road project, the governor recalled President Tinubu’s visit to the area during the 2023 election period, noting that the reconstruction fulfils a key campaign commitment.

He said the project would improve access to rural communities, boost agricultural activities, and support efforts to enhance security in previously underserved areas.

Governor Sani assured that the state government would ensure the effective execution of the projects, describing them as long-term investments in Kaduna’s development.

He thanked President Tinubu for what he described as sustained federal support for the state and commitment to equitable infrastructure development nationwide.
