A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) has been killed in what is believed to be an ambush by insurgents in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The attack reportedly happened on January 5 at about 2:30pm along the Warave-Bayan Dutse Road.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that armed men opened fire on CJTF members and local hunters who were on a routine patrol in the area.

One CJTF member, identified as 40-year-old Hamman Ibrahim, was critically wounded during the attack.

After the incident, troops from a nearby military forward operating base, alongside police officers and CJTF members, arrived at the scene and recorded details of what happened.

The injured man was taken to the General Hospital in Gwoza, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

His body was later released to his family and buried in line with Islamic customs.
