Suspected rustlers cart away 50 cows in Kogi

Suspected cattle rustlers have stolen 50 cows in Gbugbu, a community in Lafiagi area of Kogi State, police authorities have confirmed.
According to the police, the attack happened on December 18 at about 4:00 pm while two young Fulani herders, Hassan and Husseini, both 25, were grazing their animals on the outskirts of the village.
Zagazola Makama reports that the herders were reportedly ambushed by armed men who drove away with the cattle.
“The attackers struck suddenly and escaped with about 50 cows,” a police source said.
The case was formally reported by Alhaji Abubakar Muhammadu, 50, alongside Malam Tijani Ahmed, 62, who is the secretary of the Miyetti Allah association in Lafiagi.
Security agencies have since moved into action. A joint task force made up of soldiers, police officers, members of the Village Guard Network (VGN), and local hunters has been deployed to the area.
A security official said the team has begun searching nearby forests and bush paths.
“Our men are combing the surrounding areas to track the rustlers and recover the stolen cows,” the official stated.
Residents of Gbugbu say the incident has caused fear among herders and farmers, as cattle rustling has become a growing concern in the area.
Security agencies assured the public that efforts are ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
