Suspected cable thief electrocuted in Yola

A suspected cable thief has been electrocuted in Malkohi, a residential community in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The man, whose body was found near a transformer in the Malkohi 1000 Housing Estate, was suspected to have been attempting to steal armoured electrical cables from the transformer where he was discovered.
The man, who had not been identified at the time of filing this report, was seen lying face down at dawn on Tuesday.
The incident was believed to have occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when the man was thought to be carrying out his act under the cover of darkness.
Residents, interpreting what the man was likely to have been doing, said they found him close to severed wires and cutting tools, in addition to signs of forced entry and exposed wiring in the transformer area where he was lying.
They concluded that he was attempting to vandalise the transformer.
Officials from the Yola Electricity Distribution Company, YEDC, visited the scene to assess the situation, while security agents removed the body. However, neither the YEDC nor the police has issued any statement on the matter.
