Strait of Hormuz: ‘They’ve made foolish mistake, we no longer need their help’ – Trump on NATO

President Donald Trump has stated that the United States no longer needs help from NATO after facing rejection from several member nations regarding his request for a multinational naval force to reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz trade route, which has been closed by Iran.

While addressing reporters from the Oval Office, the US president characterized the dismissal of his requests as a “very foolish mistake,” further adding, “Everyone agrees with us, but they are unwilling to assist. And we, as the United States, must keep this in mind because we find it quite shocking.”

Trump expressed his belief that Europe should have dispatched minesweepers to aid in the operation within the strait, remarking that it was “not a big deal” but deemed it “unfair” to the United States.

Once again, Trump targeted British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, expressing his disappointment and noting that the relationship with the UK had been positive prior to Starmer’s tenure.

These comments from the US president followed Starmer’s statement on Monday, in which he indicated that while the UK would be “taking the necessary action to defend ourselves and our allies, we will not be drawn into the wider war.” Sources within the British government indicated that there were no plans for UK vessels to be deployed in the strait.

Several US allies have raised concerns regarding Trump’s shifting rationale for, and the necessity of, the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran, which has now entered its third week.

In a previous post on his Truth Social platform, Trump also criticized Japan, Australia, and South Korea for their decision not to send warships. “Due to our significant military success, we no longer ‘need,’ nor desire, the assistance of NATO countries _ WE NEVER DID!” he stated.

“Similarly, Japan, Australia, or South Korea.”

His comments emerged amid a worsening crisis in the Middle East, where Iran has targeted cargo ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz, halting oil shipments from large sections of the Gulf and causing significant increases in prices.
