SOKOTO — The Isa Local Government Council has refuted recent social media claims accusing its Executive Chairman, Hon. Sharehu Abubakar Kamarawa, of inaction over a security alert regarding the movement of suspected bandits in the area.

Describing the allegations as false and misleading, the Council emphasized its continuous efforts to protect lives and property within the local government.

According to an official statement, upon receiving the intelligence, Chairman Kamarawa immediately mobilized local security outfits and notified relevant agencies for rapid intervention. Security personnel were deployed to the identified location, but further intelligence indicated that the bandits had diverted along an alternative route, which led to a tragic incident.

Following the incident, the Council called for the removal of the commander overseeing the affected area due to alleged negligence, appointing a new officer to enhance coordination and operational efficiency among security units.

Hon. Kamarawa reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on insecurity, highlighting ongoing provision of logistics, operational allowances, fuel, and essential materials to security formations. He also noted that the welfare and readiness of local vigilante groups remain a priority to complement conventional forces.

Expressing sympathy to victims and their families, the Chairman assured that the State and Local Governments are collaborating to restore normalcy and sustain peace across affected communities. He urged residents to avoid spreading falsehoods that could undermine security efforts and to provide credible intelligence to assist authorities in preventing future threats.

Hon. Kamarawa commended Governor Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, for proactive security measures, including the distribution of patrol vehicles and motorcycles, reinstatement of operational allowances, and the establishment of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps. He also highlighted the deployment of an air component under Operation Fansa Yamma and the recruitment of additional personnel into the State Neighbourhood Initiative and Sokoto Marshals as critical steps in enhancing community-based policing and rapid response.

He reaffirmed that Isa Local Government remains committed to the State Government’s comprehensive strategy to combat banditry, strengthen public confidence, and promote peace and development in the region.
