A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governorship candidate in Zamfara State, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has welcomed the defection of Governor Dauda Lawal from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling APC, describing it as a boost to the party’s momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.

Shinkafi said the governor’s move signals a renewed effort to consolidate political forces in Zamfara State as the APC prepares for future polls. He called on party members and supporters to rally behind the governor and work in unity.

In a statement on Monday, Shinkafi said: “Governor Dauda Lawal’s decision to join the ruling party demonstrates a commitment to collaboration and collective efforts aimed at advancing the welfare of the people and accelerating development in the state. I call on party members, supporters, and the good people of Zamfara State to welcome the governor wholeheartedly and work together in the spirit of unity and progress for the benefit of the state and the nation.”

Looking ahead, Shinkafi expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects in the state.

“APC will win upcoming elections in Zamfara State and deliver President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election as it did in 2023,” he said.

He also urged party members to set aside political differences, strengthen the party at the grassroots, and encouraged eligible citizens to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards.
