Senator Onyewuchi gifts Science, ICT facilities to Imo schools

The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, on Wednesday in Owerri commissioned a science laboratory built and equipped by Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi and donated to Owerri Girls Secondary School, Owerri.
The facilities — a fully equipped science laboratory at Owerri Girls Secondary School and an ICT/Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre at Claretian University of Nigeria, Nekede — were unveiled during separate ceremonies in Owerri.
Governor Uzodimma, represented by his deputy, Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru, hailed Senator Onyewuchi’s contributions to educational development in the state, describing the gestures as consistent with the ideals of the Shared Prosperity administration.
He said the senator’s investment in scientific and digital learning reflects global trends and would help prepare young people to become innovators and digital professionals.
At Owerri Girls Secondary School, the Governor expressed special delight over the donation of a science laboratory to a girls’ school, stressing the importance of exposing the girl-child to modern scientific education. He urged the students to make effective use of the facility, saying the tools at their disposal would equip them to “rule the world.”
He assured Senator Onyewuchi of the state government’s continued support as long as his projects align with Imo’s development agenda.
Speaking at both events, Senator Onyewuchi said the projects were part of his vision to expand opportunities for young people in Owerri Zone, especially girls.
He described scientific and digital literacy as “super power,” urging students to dream big and work hard. He also pledged to deliver more developmental projects across the constituency.
The Vice Chancellor of Claretian University, Prof. Rev. Fr. Wenceslaus Madu, and the Principal of Owerri Girls Secondary School, Rev. Sis. Esonchi Nwokeafor, expressed gratitude to the senator and commended Governor Uzodimma for fostering a climate that encourages technological and scientific advancement. They called for more interventions to strengthen digital and science-based education.
The events were attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor’s husband, Chief Chukwuma Ekomaru, SAN; former PDP State Secretary, Hon. George Egu; former Imo NUJ Chairman, Chief Fidel Onyeneke; and National President of Owerri Girls Alumni Association, Dr. Pearl Onukwua.
