Senate adjourns plenary to Sept. 23

…As Akpabio tasks committees to tidy up their reports

ABUJA- THE President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has called on the  various Ad – Hoc and standing committees of the Senate to use the recess period to carry out mandated assignments and tidy up reports on them, as the Upper Chamber, yesterday, adjourned plenary to September 23, 2025.

Speaking after the adjournment, Akpabio said: “Chairmen and members of our various Ad-hoc and standing committees, carrying out mandated legislative assignments given to them by the Senate, should use the period of the adjournment to finish up with the assignments and report back to Senate on resumption in September.”

Earlier after a closed door meeting held by the Senators which lasted for about two hours, the leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele(APC, Ekiti Central) announced adjournment of Senate to September 23, 2025.

The  Senate had on Wednesday announced that it would hold plenary next week, but the adjournment by the House of Representatives the same day (Wednesday), made the red chamber to concur with it yesterday.

It was gathered that decision on the adjournment was arrived at by the Senators during closed door session which made them to step down all the vital legislative items earlier listed on the Order Paper for consideration with attendance before the adjournment.

Some of the items stood down till September for consideration include report of its Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND for establishment of six new federal universities; report of its Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions; and report of its Committee on Solid Minerals Development.

Five different bills listed for concurrence, were also part of the items stood down till September 23, 2025.
