Security concerns, policy shifts signal new phase

Students at Yaba College of Technology are grappling with a wave of unease following recent security incidents, alongside new institutional policies and proposed development plans that could reshape the future of the college.

Tension heightened after the reported killing of a student in the Ebute Metta area near the campus. The incident, believed to be linked to suspected cult-related activity, has triggered fear among students and residents, prompting renewed calls for tighter security within and around the institution.

A National Diploma student, who requested anonymity, described the prevailing anxiety: “I’m scared moving around late now. The school and government need to do something.”

In response to growing concerns over safety and discipline, the management of YABATECH has introduced stricter regulations. Among the measures is a ban on “sign-out” celebrations traditionally held by final-year students after examinations.
