S’Court verdict on ADC leadership dispute strengthens rule of law — Tambuwal

Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal, has hailed the recent judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a landmark affirmation of the rule of law and the resilience of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

In a statement released via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Tambuwal said the ruling comes at a crucial moment when public confidence in political processes is under scrutiny, noting that the apex court’s decision sends a “clear and reassuring message” about the judiciary’s commitment to justice, fairness, and constitutional order.

The lawmaker emphasised that the judgment has decisively put to rest all lingering disputes over the party’s leadership, affirming the legitimacy of the ADC leadership under David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola.

He described the development as critical to fostering unity, stability, and institutional growth within the party.

According to Tambuwal, the essence of democracy goes beyond periodic elections, stressing that it is firmly anchored on the strength, independence, and credibility of institutions tasked with interpreting and upholding the law.

“I commend the Court for rising above all pressures and delivering a verdict that reinforces public confidence in our legal system,” he stated. “This judgment is not only a victory for the ADC but also for Nigeria’s democracy and all citizens who believe in due process and constitutional governance.”

He further urged political stakeholders across the country to respect the ruling and remain committed to lawful conduct, calling for renewed dedication to democratic values, institutional trust, and national cohesion.

Tambuwal maintained that adherence to judicial pronouncements remains essential for sustaining political stability and deepening democracy, particularly at a time when the nation continues to navigate complex governance challenges.

The Supreme Court’s decision is widely expected to bring clarity and renewed direction to the affairs of the ADC, while reinforcing the judiciary’s role as a stabilising force in Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape.
