S-West PDP factions bicker over Makinde, Fayose

By Omeiza Ajayi & Adeola Badru

IBADAN—FOLLOWING remarks made by former Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, about Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, the South-West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, loyal to Governor Makinde, yesterday, threw its weight behind Makinde, reaffirming its unwavering loyalty to the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, led by Aminu Turaki.

Speaking on behalf of the zonal leadership, the PDP South-West Publicity Secretary, Sanya Atofarati, said the Zonal Executive Committee stands in solidarity with Nigerians amid prevailing economic and security challenges across the country.

Atofarati, who spoke at the party’s zonal headquarters, Adagunodo House, Ibadan, noted that the party remains committed to offering what he described as a credible alternative anchored on people-oriented governance, stability, and national development.

He said: “The South West Zonal Executive Committee unequivocally identifies with and stands firmly behind Governor Seyi Makinde, whose leadership continues to exemplify stability, focus, and commitment to the welfare of the people.”

The party dismissed reports of an alleged impeachment plot against the governor, describing them as unfounded and a calculated attempt to create political tension.

The PDP also tackled Mr Fayose over what it described as “reckless and divisive” remarks capable of inciting discord, particularly through the politicisation of traditional institutions.

According to the statement, such comments are “irresponsible and self-serving” and do not reflect the position of the PDP in the South West.

The party further maintained that Fayose remains expelled and should refrain from actions capable of creating friction between the Makinde administration and the Olubadan Palace.

The zone reaffirmed its commitment to internal cohesion, while also pledging total support for the Turaki-led NWC, emphasising the need for unity, discipline, and collective purpose within the party.

They have no

mandate —Wike faction

Meanwhile, the PDP South West Zone loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Terrority, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike, yesterday, disowned the Ibadan press conference.

In a statement by the factional Zonal Publicity Secretary, Akinloye Oyeniyi, described the event as the handiwork of organised impostors who hold no mandate and represent the party at no level whatsoever.

Oyeniyi stated that the zonal leadership was not even in Ibadan when the purported press conference held.

He said: “The Zonal Chairman, Engr. Deji Doherty, was away in Abuja attending the 108th meeting of the National Executive Committee of our great party and no zonal officials held any press conference. The claim of an Ibadan press conference is therefore a barefaced lie.

“These are the ones whose agenda was to destabilise the party but they failed. Looking at them, one could see that their group is now a psychiatric ward with no staff. Destabilising elements always end up as wanderers. Karma never forgets, and wickedness by default carries consequences too.”
