Russia: US, Ukraine, European allies establish coordination cell

The United States, Ukraine, and European allies have established a joint caucus to strengthen coordination efforts in the context of the Russian war.

The development was announced at the Paris Declaration attended by the members of the Coalition of the Willing, and American and Ukrainian officials.

The allies said that they agreed to establish a “US/Ukraine/Coalition coordination cell” at the Coalition Operational Headquarters in Paris, France.

The countries have committed to politically and legally binding guarantees that will be activated once a ceasefire enters into force, in addition to bilateral security agreements.

The guarantees are listed in five components: Participation in a proposed US-led ceasefire monitoring and verification mechanism; and Support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Others: A Multinational Force for Ukraine; Deepening long-term defence cooperation with Ukraine; and Support for Ukraine in the case of a future armed attack by Russia.

The United Kingdom and France will, after a ceasefire, establish “military hubs” across Ukraine and build protected facilities for weapons and military equipment.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte joined leaders at the Paris meeting co-hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Rutte commended the progress on “practical aspects” in securing an end to the war, praising America’s peace efforts and the commitment of allies to security guarantees.

The NATO chief, however, noted “the persistent needs Ukraine faces as it continues to defend against Russian attacks,” and urged continued contributions by allies.
